| | This newsletter is very important, particularly the section on 10 Digit dialling. If you do not follow instructions you may be unable to dialup and connect to the internet. 10 Digit dialling enforced on 16 January 2007 Telkom announced in this article in July 2006 that 10 digit dialling will be enforced from 16th January 2007.
Presently, when fixed-line to fixed-line calls are made within the same area (for example, Pretoria) the caller does not have to dial Pretoria's area code (namely 012). However, in terms of the 10-digit dialling system, the area code for Pretoria will have to precede the number (for example 3070306) even if the caller and the person being called are both within the Pretoria area. The full number - 0123070306 - is what is referred to as 10-digit dialling.
After 16 January 2007, mis-dialled calls will be routed to announcements which will request that callers dial 10 digits when making local and national calls. This will continue until 16 March 2007, after which mis-dialled calls will be routed to a "number unavailable" tone.
Dialup modems cannot understand the announcement and you may not hear this, and your modem will not connect, if - (a) you use a dialup connection and (b) your Windows Area code is the same as the dialup POP number you connect to. To change this, please do one of the following: - If you use the Launcher:
Dialup to the Internet and click https://portal.icl-za.com/eject/site/index.php?ch=log Login with Main email address and password. Click 'Update contact Information' and make sure your details and 'nearest city' are correct. Click 'Update' to save changes. Click 'Download Settings' (or 'Download SAIX Settings' if you use SAIX Dialup) Click the OPEN or RUN option. Do NOT click Save.
This will download settings including 10 digit POP number and Email account settings.
- If you did not make changes before 16 Jan 07 and you use the Launcher:
Click Start / Programs / Accessories / Notepad Click File / Open Type in C:\PROGRAM FILES\EJECT\LAUNCHER.INI Change the following entries (This assumes Pretoria POP is used) Refer to list of dialup POP numbers for your area
From Local=3070306 LocalAreaCode=012 To Local=0123070306 LocalAreaCode=
Click File / Save Click Exit
- You may also need to force Windows to always dial 10 digits
If the above does not work: Click Start / Control Panel / Phone and Modem options Click Edit Change Area Code to 555 (This is an invalid area code, to force Windows to always dial 10 digits. If you dial through a PABX then enter 0 or 9 in the 'To access and outside line for long-distance calls' field. ) Click OK
- If you do NOT use the Launcher:
Manually edit your dialup connection Click Start / Control Panel / Network Connections then select the dialup connection. Right-click and choose Properties. Untick the 'Use dialling rules' box Edit the Phone number to include the Area code before the POP number Click OK
Notes: If you connect via a PABX, or use a PrePaid Telkom phone, or have VoiceMail enabled, you may need other numbers before the 10 digit POP number. Contact us for details. If you use the Launcher then making changes to a Dial Up Network via Properties will not work, as settings are used from the LAUNCHER.INI file. This does not affect ADSL users. Refer to this article regarding changes to alarm systems, BlockCall Plus, ForwardCall, SpeedDial, UrgentCall, PABX systems, and international dialling prefix.
Anti-Spam upgrades The article Why Spam wont go away claims that over 90% of all email is Spam (unsolicited emails). In January 2005 Eject implemented spam rejection from known spamming servers using Spamcop, and have recently added SORBS anti-spam facilities, to reduce the scourge of Spam as far as possible. We have thereby managed to significantly reduce incoming spam. All emails sent from dynamic IP addresses (not from an ISP server) will also be rejected. What does this mean to you? - Most (but not all) Spam is detected and rejected before they reach your email account
- You can concentrate on real emails and business functions
- Reduced dial up time, and less bandwidth used
- You may need to setup additional Spam filters using webmail.eject.co.za
Occasionally your sender will get email rejected when destined for you. The most important thing is for the sender to look at the entire non-delivery message, which will indicate why their email was not delivered. Common messages are: Access denied - 196.1.23.4 listed by dnsbl.sorbs.net
The email server with an IP address of 196.1.23.4 has been blacklisted for spamming by Sorbs. Fujitsu will not accept any emails from that ISP, until that ISP takes action, and their server is de-listed as a spamming server. Ask the SENDER to contact their own ISP and complain. It is pointless contacting Fujitsu in this case. Please send email via your Service Provider's smtp server
The sender is trying to send email directly from their PC or own email server on a dynamic IP address. Fujitsu will reject this until they send via their Internet Service Providers email server. 550 The user's mailbox is over quota, please try again later
Your email box is full. Please retrieve emails more regularly, and delete emails from the Spam and Trash folders on the http://webmail.eject.co.za/ server. If you need more mailbox space, contact us. Use webmail.eject.co.za Logon to http://webmail.eject.co.za/ using your Browser, from any PC worldwide, whilst on holiday or away on business trip. SPAM reduction Since implementation of a fourth level of Spam detection and rejection in April we now reject up to 75% of all incoming emails as spam - before it reaches your Inbox. Update your contact details Many times we try to contact our clients, or debit their banking accounts, and find that contact and banking details have changed - but we have not been informed of changes. This leads to delays in service and even suspension of internet access. Click here and log in with your Main email address and password, to update your contact and banking details. You can also amend mailbox sizes / add and delete mailboxes / obtain Invoices / add Services / add Aliases (own domains) / request Escan licenses. Eject Newsletter February 2005 NOTICE OF PRICE CHANGES – 2005 Eject has always provided a cost-effective and quality service for which we have received many compliments. We wish to thank all of our users for their continued support and favourable feedback, and encourage new users to compare service, quality and prices - then EJECT to the Internet. Do your friends and family a favour and tell them about Eject. As part of our annual price reviews we have taken into account the market conditions, inflation rates, competitive pricing and services. Our continued commitment to providing excellent service at a cost-effective price ensures that we are the best. For the third year in a row we have more price decreases than increases, and some charges have been abolished! With effect from 1st April 2005, the following price changes will come into effect. All prices include Vat - Remember that all Annual services offer 1 month free - providing you pay upfront for 11 months, you receive 12 months service, and you save on bank charges. Quarterly payments save on bank charges.
Price Decreases: Recognising that your requirements will grow from Analogue to ISDN to ADSL, and further, we have reduced these prices · The ISDN 64k option will decrease from R 57.30 to R 40 pm, whilst the ISDN 128k option will decrease from R 120 to R 100 pm. Get the benefits of digital speed and reliability. · The once-off and annual Domain name registration, transfer and renewal charges have been abolished! Your own domain personalised website, Webmail and emails still costs R 94 pm, but now with no annual or once-off charges. Reflect your company, family or product names in your website domain and email addresses, and project a professional image which can remain with you forever, even if you switch ISPs. Charges for second domain names and domain parking are reduced significantly. · The Webmail facility will be included for all users at no charge. Delete large emails before downloading them, use anti-SPAM filters to further reduce Spam based on content and keywords, and send and receive emails from any internet connected PC in the world. The large number of users, who subscribe to Webmail option currently, will have relevant charges removed. · The ADSL bandwidth option has been reduced by R 20 to R 249 pm. Get the benefits of broadband, ultra-fast speeds and always-on connectivity at a lower cost. · The ADSL only bandwidth option has been reduced by R 20 to R 265 pm, if you require ADSL bandwidth without dialup, webspace and emails. · The SAIX dialup option has been decreased from R 43 to R 18 pm. You can save lots each month by reducing long distance charges. To test this, phone 0860425477 from a normal phone - if you hear a message stating "the subscriber you have dialled cannot be reached from the area you are calling" then contact us to subscribe to the SAIX option. If you hear a "fax tone" then you are within 50 km of normal POP and already pay local call charges. If you travel around South Africa, subscribe to SAIX and always dial one number at local charges. Note - Most optional services are in addition to the Standard Internet service charges. Check our pricelist for details. Price Increases: · The Standard Internet Access service will increase slightly from R69.70 to R 74 per month. All users will have access to the Webmail facility described above, and our recently implemented central Spam rejection facility will reduce Spam significantly and thereby reduce your download costs, at no extra charge. No changes in Price: · The eScan anti-virus, Preventon personal Firewall and Veto, extra email space, extra webspace, webstats and database options remain at 2004 pricing. When will price changes come into effect? For existing users, these price changes will take effect at your next billing period, depending upon whether Monthly, Quarterly or Annual payments have been selected. New users will be affected from 1st April 2005 How can you save even more? Change from monthly or quarterly to Annual payments before the 31st March 2005. Switching to Annual subscriptions means you can pay last year’s rates, avoid price fluctuations and reduce bank charges during the balance of 2005.
