iBurst technology is a wide-area mobile broadband technology offering a unique combination of high speed, wide range and high base station capacity. It is a pure Internet Protocol, end-to-end system built on two primary components: base stations deployed by a network operator, and wireless modems or PC cards designed for the iBurst network.

Unlike voice networks such as cellular GSM, CDMA and 3G standards - iBurst technology has been designed from the ground up to provide pure data and with the incorporation of IntelliCell technology it is able to provide the wireless data more efficiently than the voice based cellular networks.

iBurst have installed over 260 base stations, and over 70,000 customers are using iBurst in South Africa today.

No telephone lines are required - making installation quick, simple, and allows mobility within coverage areas.

Voice Over IP (VOIP) protocols are allowed, unlike the cellular technologies where they are stopped or degraded.

Unused bandwidth data may be carried over to the following month (limited to the monthly data allocation and/or the amount of any Bandwidth Booster)

Modems and Antennas:

UTD for Desktop or Networks (USB and Ethernet ports) : It requires mains power, has a small extending aerial, with Ethernet and USB ports. This allows fixed broadband connection benefits with added portability, allowing it to be disconnected and moving it to a new location. It can be connected to a single computer or attached to a Local Area Network or a Wireless network for shared access between devices in the home or office. Purchase a Wireless Router from Eject to connect many computers via wireless or via LAN cables.

USB Modem for laptops and desktops : For a fixed or mobile broadband connection allowing the freedom to set it up in an office or move around without losing connection. No mains adapter is required. Suitable to connect to a PC/Mac/Laptop.

The UTC (Laptop modems) are no longer sold, use a USB modem instead.

Mini Antenna : Supplied with USB modems, can increase signal in low coverage areas.

Omni Antenna : Optional and recommended in poor or low coverage areas, it can improve signal significantly. Connects to USB, Laptop and Desktop modems. The high gain omni-directional antenna is developed for iBurst 1787 to 1797 MHz for pole or wall mounting (bracket for mounting included).
In areas where there in no coverage, antennas will not provide a signal.

Compatibility - iBurst Modems are compatible with Windows XP (32 bit), Windows 2000, Vista, Apple Mac OS X and Apple/Intel Duo. Linux and Unix can be configured manually to operate with the Desktop modem ethernet port.

 Other devices :

Dual WAN port Router :

Connect two iBurst modems, or an iBurst + any other Ethernet connection (such as ADSL or Diginet or 3G or HSPDA WAN port), for faster browsing and greater throughput. An integrated 8-port Fast Ethernet LAN switch, load balancing with automatic fail-over, a high performance Firewall and USB storage support for easy file sharing. Perfect for ensuring fail-over in event of one technology failure.

Wireless VoIP Router :

With the Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and turn that Internet connection into a high-quality, high-value telephone and VOIP services. The router provides :

  • A shared iBurst connection
  • Wireless Access Point to connect Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b) devices.
  • A 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch, to connect your wired-Ethernet devices.
  • A phone adapter enables high-quality telephone service, with 2 independent standard telephone jacks.
  • Encoding wireless transmissions with up to 128-bit encryption to protect your data and privacy.
  • Serve as a DHCP Server, a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders.
  • Supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users access to the Internet.
  • Configuration is easy with the web browser-based configuration utility.

Check if you have Coverage now, and check back later if you dont as new base stations are added monthly.
Then download and complete an Individual or Business Application form, and supply the necessary documents as required by the RICA Act. (Any ISP which does not insist on this documentation is acting illegally)
After approval we will deliver your chosen iBurst Modem within 1 working day in major cities, or 2 days in smaller cities.
